This 1936 black and white print advertisement for Spud menthol cigarettes has an art illustration by Vladimir Bobri of a man smoking a window pipe with the headline, “This is Dutch for 'low-temperature' smoke.”

The first menthol cigarette was developed by Lloyd “Spud” Hughes and Axton-Fisher Tobacco Co. later acquired the patent.
