“Kennecott’s Chino Mine in New Mexico has changed its signal system from steam whistle to two-way radio.
On the newly installed radio system a mine ‘traffic cop’ with a microphone in his hand talks to foreman and locomotive engineers all over the vast pit. This split-second communication speeds up operations…makes for more efficient mining.”
