This 1948 vintage ad for General Mills has a photo by Victor Keppler of a lady sitting on the porch shelling peas as she talks to her son with the caption, “Mother, you’re an old plutocrat!”

“But doesn’t the company pay more money to the stockholders than to the employees?
By no means. The employees get several times as much as the stockholders. For example, I read in the last General Mills annual report that 37½ million dollars was paid to the 12,000 employees, compared with 6 million to us 12,000 stockholders.”
