“It’s been a long time since the Autocar people switched from riveted to bolt-and-nut construction. Here’s how it happened:
Two Autocar engineers took off on a coast-to-coast run to shake the bugs out of a new test model. Things went well until they reached the outskirts of a small Western town. Then a riveted spring bracket broke.
It took an entire day just to chisel through the rivets because it was hard to get at the bracket. Repairing the bracket was easy, but the only way to replace it was with bolts and nuts obtained locally.
From that day on, it was accessible bolt-and-nut construction exclusively for all Autocar trucks.”
This is a 67 yr. old original vintage ad removed from a 1953 publication and is not a reproduction of any kind.
